Germany: Arrival. January 10, 2004

Well, it has happened. I am in Germany, but I almost didn't get here (note I am currently using a public computer at a library and the keyboard is a little bit strange).
Well, I woke up at 3AM Sunday morning to go the Boston airport. I got there with plenty of time to spare, and I got through security in about 2 minutes (the only long wait was check-in, as I couldn't use autocheckin due to the internalnational status of my flight).
So, it's finally time to board the plane at 9:35AM. We get on, sit down, get comfortable, and then we are instructed to get off because the plane is having problems. I should point out that this is a tiny plane, so we had to walk outside to get to it, and it was raining. So, we get off, and then the plane is progressivelz delayed more and more. A few other planes to NYC (where my plane was going) left during the time I was waiting. Finally, around noon, we get on the plane again. Then we get off again. Then we get on again, then we are in the air - finally! The flight was an hour. I could have walked.
So, I slept on the plane, and when I woke up when we landed, I felt sick. Wonderful. So, I wonder around the NYC airport getting sicker and sicker. I finally find a nice spot on the floor, where I lay down in the fetal position for a hour or so, clutching my backpack (which had my computer) and my fanny pack (which had more than $1000 worth of various forms of money).
So, finally I board the second plane. My seat is just too small for me to lean forward with my head between my knees (which would have been the most comfortable position). I alert the flight attendant that I don#t feel well, and I ask for a drink of water and a towel soaked in cold water. The flight attendants were very nice...

However, I guess sick people aren't really supposed to fly, and they said I should get off the plane. So, very quickly, I became at least a little better (as much better as I could fake, without puking). So, they let me stay on the flight. Take off was delayed an hour, but due to the strong tail winds, we arrived early! The tail winds were so strong that we nearly hit Mach 1! (There was a TV screen that displayed flight status, such as speed, altitude, temperature, and more).
So, I arrived in Freiburg, feeling much better (my body probably decided to become sick to get back at my mind, for letting me go to a foreign country). Customs was easy - a stamp on the passport, and then a walk through a door (nothing to declare, thank you very much!).
I got a train ticket to Freiburg for 48.50 Euro (so not all travel is cheap in Europe! 50 Euro is a lot of money!)
I arrived at the Freiburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and my peer advisor was able to immediately identify me.
"I look that American?" I ask
"I can just tell" she responds.

Well, I actually had to give up wearing shorts for my time in Germany. I am American, but I don't want to be too American until they hear my accent. The Internet access situation seems random. Right now I am in an Internet Cafe paying .06 Euro per minute to use the Internet.

Thanks for pointing that out about the password thing. I heard some other people had trouble logging in. Please make sure that cookies are enabled, my site is trusted to accecpt cookies, and that you type in the correct password. If you are having trouble, please email me and I will try to fix it.

Well after a few tries, i finally got myself back in though im not sure what was the hold up this time. Any who it looks very promising that you will not be replaced, Reslife finally put up a place to check the spring housing assignements, and there was no one listed as roommate1. Chris was listed as suitemate1 and interestingly enough the guy that was supposed to show up last semester was still listed as suitemate2. But thats reslife for ya. The real kicker is that chris invited someone to go into his room but they ended up having to do it in person because they were late or something. So if shaun actually shows up this semester it would be interesting. Hopefully he doesnt. No one could replace my good old mikey. BTW if i shouldnt get kicked off of campus next semester because of lottery or otherwise would ya want me to just invite you back into our room next semester, cause i plan to stay there barring and major difficulties etc. and wouldnt mind having you back again, though who knows if i could get used to a roommate again..... but hey i will miss your darn annoying alarm clock, how will i ever wake up for class in time?????

have fun in my motherland
ich bin ein berliner!!! Kennedy was a doughnut?
oh and bring me back a map or something
