Germany: The beginnings. November 10, 2003

Well, everything has to start somewhere.
So, here's the gist of the story. My first semester here at UConn I transferred in 34 credits from CCSU (http://www.ccsu.edu). To have a car on campus, UConn requires that I have 54 credits (making me a junior by their credit standing systerm), so that required that I take 20 credits if I wanted a car for my second semester here. I already have a car, so as to avoid letting it rot, I decided to take the full 20 credit load.
So, I got 3 4-credit courses, and 2 3-credit courses, bringing me up to 18. I was thinking about taking CSE 123C, but thankfully I didn't get a permission number in time. Instead, I registered for INTD 180, which is a First Year Experience class (1 credit) and ENGR 100, which is Intro to Engineering. ENGR 100 basically consisted of the various departments giving short 1-hour lectures. It was graded S/U, so that course probably required less work than any other course I will ever take.
One of the parts of the engineering program is Eurotech. Dr. Weidauer of the UConn German department presented. I guess he did a good job, because thoughts of study abroad started turning over in my head.
(Just a note, I had studied German since my freshmen year of college, so I will have completed 5 semesters of college German by the time I'm in Germany). Then slowly over time the idea of studying abroad turned into an application...
